    Good morning, everybody…

It’s “National Chocolate Day,” today. Nothing fancy, just a chocolate pudding with a sweet topping.

    From: Cocoa Rediscovered
Recipes: everything from hot cocoa to chocolate soufflé.
A pamphlet from: Cadbury Schweppes Powell Ltd., Montreal Quebec, Canada
Publication date: some time in the sixties. (no postal code)

    Creamy Chocolate Pudding

    3/4 cup sugar
    1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    1/4 cup Fry’s Cocoa
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    3 cups milk
3 tablespoons butter or margarine (use butter)
1 teaspoon vanilla (real not artificial)
    Frosty topping. (see below)

Measure sugar , flour, cocoa and salt into top of double boiler.
Mix together until well blended and free of lumps.
Stir in milk; add butter or margarine.
Place over boiling water; cook, stirring frequently, until smooth and creamy.
Cover and cook 10 minutes; stir twice.
    Remove from heat; add vanilla.
Pour into serving dishes or custard cups; chill well.
Garnish with Frosty Topping or toasted nuts, if desired.
    Yield 6-8 servings.

    Frosty Topping

    1 cup whipping cream
    1/4 cup icing sugar
    1/4 teaspoon vanilla (as above)
Few drops vegetable food colouring – red or green colour
Chill whipping cream, then beat until stiff.
Fold in icing sugar, vanilla and food colouring; blend well.
Place in freezer tray and freeze until firm.
    Yield: 2 cups.

Note from me: With the two recipes combined you’ll have a real sugar bomb.

On this day in 1896, Howard Harold Hanson was born in Wahoo Nebraska (basically due west of Omaha and due north of Lincoln).

In 1925, he instituted the “American Composers Concerts” in Rochester, New York to showcase original music by American composers. These concerts continued until 1971.

He won the Pulitzer prize for music in 1944.

One of his better known works is the opera “Merry Mount,” based on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story, “The Maypole of Merry Mount.”

That opera was commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera of New York City in 1929, and was Hanson’s first opera.

Overture: “Merry Mount” conducted by Schermerhorn and played by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra

    17 Minutes 53 Seconds

@ Dry and Shika (from yesterday)

Thank you for your kind words.

As a side note, I did check and both Vandalay, and Curmudgeon68 were active yesterday but did not post on Sunday’s “The Wiz.” Vandalay did post a nasty comment at the bottom of Saturday’s strip on Sunday, though.
