Marty Links was the creator of the comic strip “Emmy Lou” which ran in newspapers all over the world for over 35 years. Marty Links was a pioneer-- a woman cartoonist at a time when the cartoon business was really a boy’s club. For over 40 years, Marty would whisk through the San Francisco Chronicle city room delivering a weekly batch of cartoons with the same gusto as Emmy Lou would.

I remember this strip from when I was a kid (so very very long ago). Was the artwork always this shoddy?

Me too.

I’m just wondering why they’re not being run sequentially. Who chooses which one to run each day, and how? I’d love to see them all.

Marty really captured young-teen-girl-ness. Their outfits are so carefully put together, with the aim of looking really grown up, but the little girl is still present in each one.

Marty son-in-law here again! Annieb1012…first of all thanx for your questions. There’s over 15,000 Emmy Lou comic panels in inventory(35 years). We’re trying to get a feel of how to roll them out. They’re all so good! We have to upload to GoComics.com a month at a time. Next month, based on everyone’s comments, I think we’ll run a sequential 30 day series from individual years on a monthly basis.
And, based on the comments about the Sunday Emmy Lou multi -panel cartoon from all…we’ll start running those on April 7th.
Marty would be so thrilled that everyone is enjoying her Emmy Lou again. I can hear her laugh now!!

I just wish they would stay with the large format, this one is way too small really. Almost too small.
