    I worked many days for 50 cents an hour in a cannery. During the season the cannery was an almost sure thing.

    Wolf in Your Midst is correct: $320 each before withholding. About $220 after withholding. Just enough to start to pay off the damage to the pier and the costs of the emergency room (after hitting the pier).

    Actually, that shouldn’t push them to a higher bracket unless they were making quite a bit over minimum. (I’m assuming they aren’t married so are filing separate.) However, a great many things including taxes are figured on a percentage, so people get bent out of shape when they see the amount increase, even though the percentage is the same.
