Babies and puppies are both quite cute, but underneath the soft, cuddly exteriors lie the fearsome hearts of competitors. Well, not really. When a new baby joins the household, Sophie the dog is initially irritated, but eventually comes to see the baby, Doug, as the asset he is: a better way to get snacks. Though the baby is still hogging precious attention, and has a tendency to pull ears and be a general nuisance, a begrudging friendship forms between the two rivals. Watch the mischief unfold in Brian Anderson’s Dog Eat Doug.

Shades of Chaucer’s scholar in the Canterbury Tales.

C’mon Brian, show me the cats! :)

No! It’s been many happy days cat free. The strip’s back to what made me pick it up in the 1st place.

@Calamity Jane
go to Garfield if you want cats!!

Love this strip and I agree with je40 above. Sophie’s becoming quite the scholar/political analyst/educator. Love it – reminds me of the old Calvin & Hobbs strip. Anyway, very clever Brian.

@je40
I couldn’t agree more. Name of strip has the word “dog” in it!!!!

Actually, it’s the people who talk about how much they are doing, that don’t get much done. People who are really working, just do it.

Garfield is for people who buy into the erroneous stereotypes about cats.

Name of strip has “eat” in it too. When’s that going to happen?
Don’t expect the names of strips to be taken so literally. I’ve never seen an argyle sweater in “The Argyle Sweater,” nor any actual peanuts in “Peanuts.”

@Calamity Jane
I concur, Brian. The strip’s been missing what made me pick it up in the first place.

People get a dog so they can own something and control it. Peope get a cat to have a feline friend.
I can’t wait to see the child getting mauled by the dog.
