As Hacker said on Yes Minister, ‘Never believe anything until it’s been officially denied.’

We had a governor a couple decades ago who always ran on the “here I am. I like tax and spend. Vote for me if that’s ok with you.” He won twice. However, everyone complained that he kept his word.

Mondale actually said he would raise taxes. Last one to admit that in a presidential race that I know of.

He also said “Reagan won’t tell you, I just did”.
Reagan went on to raise taxes several times.

One simple statement from a politician(who always lie) would blow our minds:
    “I am lying.”

People don’t want politicians to tell the truth. They want politicians who tell them their favorite lies ARE the truth. Why sure you can just conjure up resources out of thin air. The government can’t do that with money, but you can do it with resources.

There was an original Star Trek episode in which the crew were being held captive by androids. They employed a technique similar to Dogbert’s to blow their logic circuits and shut them down. Poor Bob indeed; he doesn’t even have any logic circuits.
