Around the globe Punjab and Asp have sought the Little Princess
Hither and yon, hill and dale, searching without success.
Returning now to Warbucks they hang their heads in shame
No clues to Annie’s whereabouts; Warbucks says the name
Of the great Detective: Dick Tracy of MCU
He and Samuel Catchem so good at finding clues.
Daddy Warbucks desperate, he’ll reach out to a friend
Find Little Orphan Annie, bring heartache to an end.
If anyone can find her, it’s Tracy and his crew
Courageous and tenacious, they’ll know just what to do.
So rare for Asp and Punjab to receive a quest and fail
A last resort for skilled support, Dick Tracy must prevail.
For after him there’s only one who’s equal to the task
Most mysterious Mr. Am, whom Warbucks dares not ask.

    Morning, all!
Could it be? Is the crossover beginning? Or is this a tease?

If Tracy can’t find Annie, it may be time for Mr. Am to roll up his sleeves and get busy.

Should be interesting to see how this ties in with other threads….

Well, they’re off to see Dick Tracy. Depending on how long it takes them to get there, we could see an Annie search happening very soon. I can’t yet say how this will tie in to some of the other characters we’ve seen lately. Maybe Sunday is yet another chance to resolve the fate of the Nitrates, but all this other stuff needs to be introduced to the readers of Sunday-only papers, too.

“Our American Friend”? Odd thing for Warbucks to say, unless he’s now British per the ’82 film.

Unfortunately, slots are hard to come by these days, but if two Sunday slots were possible I’d be all for it. Maybe if Annie were still running, they could actually manage two slots. :)

I really enjoy these occasional crossovers. Thank you, Mike and Joe! There are hints here that this could turn into something major — possibly even resulting in the rebirth of “Annie”? Pinch me if that’s true!!

With all due respects, may I repeat my prediction from late yesterday –

    My prediction –
The new Annie strip will begin on Sunday, April 20.

The current story line in “Annie” will end on Saturday, April 19, which was originally done on July 19, 2003. This ends the arc with Ben saying, “Ha! Little Orphan Annie! Guess you’ve been around the track a few times at that…”

Check the “Annie” strip for July 19, 2003 and you’ll see what I’m talking about. This is a most appropriate time to end the “reprint” Annie stories and get back to the story of Annie and the Butcher of the Balkins, with Dick Tracy, Punjab, and the Asp hot in pursuit!

Wel, well, well. Daddy Warbucks, the Asp, who in my mind’s eye should look more like he does here, and Punjab are on their way to enlist Tracy’s aid! This could be fun!
