Artist Joe Staton and writer Mike Curtis co-author "Dick Tracy," the classic comic strip distributed by Tribune Media Services.
Created by Chester Gould in 1931, "Dick Tracy" is one of America's most-enduring pop-cultural icons, noteworthy for its steadfast, chisel-jawed hero and the gruesome gallery of villains he and his fearless team of Crimestoppers must outwit to put behind bars.
When longtime "Dick Tracy" artist and writer Dick Locher retired from the strip after 32 years of meritorious service, fans Staton and Curtis jumped at the chance to don the yellow fedora and trench coat. Staton has been drawing comic books for many years and has more than 1,000 credits under his belt. Curtis, who has been writing comics since 1986, is the only former law-enforcement officer to work on "Dick Tracy." Both creators are excited about the new--and dangerous--adventures they have in store for Dick Tracy and his Crimestoppers.

Good morning all…

It could be the $150 million that 3D had in the satchel. He probably transferred it to the box for safe keeping.

Good morning, VB! You could be right! We’ll see.

It’s actually the last box of “Twinkies” left in the USA :p

That may be a strongbox, but, that lock should be easy enough to open; hammer and chisel should open that right up, at most, a pair of bolt cutters

Probably it will contain documents rather than treasure, but of a sort to attract the attention of Tracy and, through him, the special guest-character from Star Trek….

Impressive they would take it to the university to preserve it rather than just bust it open. (MikeyJ is right.) Not everyone with a metal detector is only a treasure hunter.

Whoa. It was in a WWII Japanese internment camp from when all Japanese Americans were rounded up…. not a high point in US history by any means. The strong box would likely contain something relating to the internment.

Wow. A new, interesting story.

@Trickle Down
Maybe…
But there’s a good half-century of time covering that lake bottom. It could be something discarded in a moment of panic, or simply lost, anytime during those years since.

Don’t think so. George Takei has dropped a few hints on his FB page relating to Dick Tracy. I think they’re supposed to be doing several days on the Japanese internment camps.

sjczurek, mike said in the yahoo gorup that this discovery will lead tracy to reopen a cold case from over 70 years ago, and he will call in his friend (based on george takei) who was interred there to help solve the mystery.

Hi, Vista Bill,
You commented yesterday and today about 3D and a satchel with $150 million – what am I missing? Is that a story I don’t know about? I notice that margueritem seems to know what you mean.
