You can’t hold your head high enough to eliminate ignorance. We’ve been trying for 50 years and it’s still here; not as much but not gone yet.

This is an insult to millions of Americans who see the unfettered growth of government as a danger to our freedom.
Like the sign someone was carrying at the 9-12 Tea Party said: “It doesn’t matter what’s on this sign, you’ll just call it racism”.
robbie said, 2 months ago
I dont think Joe Wilson would have yelled that at a white president. and if you dont believe racism is alive and breeding you are very naive, and maybe hopeful.

The biggest problem is the white liberal who thinks he’she has conquered the racism which society has taught. Now recognizing racism where it exists must be a cheap shot and racist. Right?
Just sit back and deny it while the wingnuts take over the debate. 38% of conservatives in Jew Jersey think that Obama is not a natural-born American and is the anti Christ! And you think iit is a cheap shot to call that racist!!!!!
GROW UP!!!!!!!!!
Any white person who cannot recognize the racism in them selves is the biggest part of our problem. The fact that Obama doesn’t want to recognize this simply shows he was raised in a white culture in the only state that is more multicultural than any other state.

What about all the racists who called Dubya a liar, and likened him to Hitler. I guess they never said anything obscene or demeaning about that President.

The most dangerous part of it is racism, pure and simple. Jimmy Carter as a white southener of a certain age knows racism and I’m glad he called it what it is. The nut cases with guns are threatening our President and will continue as long as main line conservatives don’t grow a spine and denounce this fear mongering.

Funny, a certain ex prez has shown himself to be a race baiting bigot. That to me is more offensive then someone reading between the lines with 60’s racist tinted glasses.
But yet the left and there ilk keep bringing out the color of ones skin. sad really sad.

Quote of the day - “Any white person who cannot recognize the racism in them selves” - Well I sure am glad you’re here to explain me to me. Mind if I explain you to you?
History will look at this period of time in which so many blacks can’t accept the fact that not all whites are racist, and liberals throw the new “race card” around (the race card used to be something else) - and either laugh at us, or just be disgusted. Sad.

NotNormanChubsyUbsy, painting Obama’s detractors as “racist” is not McCarthyism; it is an accurate statement of fact. Believe me, I listen to a LOT of conservative AM talk radio. I know of what I speak. That the modern racists are savvy enough to cloak their racism in euphemism does not make them any less hateful.
Sure there are one or two conservative Republicans out there who harbor no racist feelings and oppose Obama for what they imagine to be legitimate reasons, but y’all have no business complaining, ‘cause you’ve completely lost all credibility by failing to rein in your fellow right-wingers who are, in fact, racist, sexist, homophobic idiots.
Like I said, I know of what I speak. I listen to plenty of right-wing voices on the radio, and the covert racism of the talk-show hosts and their callers is quite obvious.

The cartoon isn’t implying that all opposition to Obama is racist, or even that most Republicans are racist. It’s implying that the Republican national organization and its spokespersons (politicians, pundits, etc.; the elephants in suits) are pandering to the racist and conspiracist beliefs and fears of part of its hard-core base.
They’re willing to try almost any statement or charge just to see what “sticks” or resonates, for political survival. And they’re enforcing the party line among their national representatives.
And when Strom Thurmond’s biracial daughter went public, Joe Wilson is the guy who said it was “a smear on the image” of Thurmond. Now we have a biracial President and Wilson can’t contain himself. Wilson is also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, which is now a radical neo-Confederate organization that says good things about secession and the institution of slavery.

tkueny, I find it amusing that you want to lump me in with an ignorant group as portrayed in the comic. I am not an ideologue, which apparently you may be, since you equated my response with being right-wing in nature. My point is simply that these tactics are no different from those used by the Democrats, but the news media doesn’t create the same hue and cry. I personally despise BOTH of the ruling parties in US politics right now, because neither really has the interests of the nation or its people at heart. I didn’t vote for Obama nor McCain in the last election because the lesser of two evils is still evil. I generally vote Libertarian, and nearly always vote against long-time incumbents. I believe that term limits would go much farther in cleaning up the mess in Washington than so-called “campaign finance laws” have done. Unless and until elected office goes back to being PUBLIC SERVICE instead of a lifetime job and a lifetime campaign for re-election, nothing GOOD will ever get done in Congress.

Racism is alive and well in this country. Ex-Pres Carter was right in pointing it out. Still I know that Newt Gingrich and Sen Boehner are vehemently opposed to Pres Obama but I don’t think any part of their opposition to Pres Obama is based on his race. The problem is that many non-racist Republicans are pandering to fear and hate. They are also being controled by media types like Limbagh and Beck who are spouting racism. That is what this cartoon is about.

We had a discussion at school the other day about racism. Some of my redneck students just don’t get it. I ended the conversation when no one had a come back to: “How can a Christian be a racist; Jesus was not a white man?”

“He’s a Mooslim Nazi Alien”…let’s see, despite his allegianace to a nominally “christian” communistic black-empowering “church” in Chicago, he was most certainly raised a Muslim…Nazi means “National Socialistic”, which is emphatically what he wants to establish….and “Alien” refers to a stranger of a land, and, having been raised in Malaysia and travelling to Pakistan, I guess it’s a fair assessment. Throwing calumnies at the opposition won’t change the facts. Obama doesn’t even begin to resemble someone who is going to “uphold” the American Constitution!

NotNormanChubsyUbsy, OK I’ll admit it: I was painting with an overly broad brush. I know there are plenty of conservatives who are perfectly decent human beings, and I was being unfair.
Regarding those blowhards on the radio:
They really are troubling. Here in SF, the right-wing talk radio station, KSFO 560AM used to employ a lot of local talent, both Republican and Libertarian, who presented thoughtful, well-reasoned arguments.
Now those folks get way less air time, and their slots are being filled by famous, nationally syndicated phonies like Sean Hannity and Mark Levin, who really do give conservatism a bad name.

I am white and last Saturday afternoon I was playing in a basketball pickup game in which some of the other players were African. I happened to be a little quicker and more athletic than the African who was defending me and scored easily against him. Out of frustration he called me a “Punk a$$ white m—– f—–.”
Is that epithet considered racist by the liberal mainstream or is it even possible for an African to exhibit racism?
We all know what would have happened had I used the “N” word.

Someone has a black father and a white mother. In most states that child is considered white because you can prove the mother. But for argument sake, let’s look at the census card at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and see what he put on it. I would be interested to see his thought.

HectorPriam, yes there are black people with deep-seated animosity towards whites, and they diminish themselves by making such hateful statements.
However, every time I hear some white person bringing up an experience like you’ve described, I have to wonder, what is your point?
I’ve been on the receiving end of similar remarks, but you won’t see me going around claiming I’m a victim of reverse discrimination. Furthermore, I don’t know any liberal who would claim that blacks are not capable of holding racist beliefs.
Contrary to what the AM radio hate-mongers would have you believe, this is NOT a belief that is widely held by liberals or democrats.
The only prominent people in our culture who make the assertion that blacks are not capable of being racist, or that whites are inherently bigoted, are certain extremists, usually religious leaders, who are affiliated with organizations like the Nation of Islam or other black-separatist groups.

Lewreader and Wtfallnamestaken, I again ask, what’s your point?
Personally, I think we all need to mind our own damned business and stop trying to force mixed-race people to choose a color.
I’ve known plenty of people who are “half black” and “half white,” and you have no idea how burdensome it is to go through life having people make assumptions about your blackness or lack thereof.
I once asked one such person whether he self-identified as black and he said, “Society sees me as black, so I’m black.”

Why is The American Negro College Fund acceptable but an American Caucasian College Fund would be considered racist?
Why is the Black Student Union on many college campuses acceptable but a White Student Union would be considered racist?
Why can there be a Miss Black America contest but not a Miss White America contest?
Why is it acceptable to make a movie with the title White Men Can’t Jump but a movie title like Black Men Can’t Swim would be considered racist?
Why is it acceptable to tell blonde and redneck jokes (because they’re white people) but any joke about Africans is considered racist?
Why, when Louis Gates lied and falsely accused James Crowley of racism last July, did Obama first stick both feet in his mouth and then hold a “beer summit” hoping to sweep everything under the rug, including the complete a$$ he made of himself on national TV? If Crowley, or any police officer had been guilty of anything close to racism, they would have been fired and MSNBC and CNN would still be talking about it.
Picture the above cartoon with the fear crazed moron with dark skin and the elephants as donkeys. Even without dialogue balloons it would be considered vicious racism.
Why is it considered admirable for any black person to take pride in his/her African heritage but if a European, like me, takes pride in his heritage it’s considered racist?
Is there even the slightest possibility that a double standard exists?
Looks like we still have a loooooong way to go in race relations.

Go ahead, take pride in your heritage. Everyone should.
And everyone should be OK with everyone else taking pride in their heritage.
See, it depends on which part of your heritage you’re proudest of. Accept what has happened before your time (i.e., history), but don’t be proud of your ancestors’ bad behavior. No group is all good or all bad.
We do have a long way to go in race relations.

The new battle cry of the white conservative racist is to scream, “I am a victim of liberals playing the race card!”
If this statement is not true how do you explain what happened to James Crowley, the Duke lacrosse team, Britton Jensen, the New Haven, CT. firefighters, etc.?
Now we’ll hear the two tired liberal apologist explanations:
1) Those were isolated incidents.
2) You can’t condemn a whole race of people for the actions of a few.
If a thousand incidents of reverse discrimination were documented they would still be considered “isolated incidents” by liberals who refuse to face the truth.
And doesn’t affirmative action condemn all whites to stand in line behind blacks in job placement, promotions, etc. because of the actions of a few whites years ago?
Neither I nor any of my family has ever owned slaves or discriminated against anyone but I was denied promotion so that a clearly less qualified black applicant could take a higher position. Be honest enough to admit it; had the situation been reversed, you, Jesse, and Al and all the talk shows would be screaming racism.
It’s clearly a case of mistaken identity. Whoever held African slaves over 140 years ago would have to be a lot older than me. And since I have never held a position where I was responsible for hiring and/or promotion of employees I can also be eliminated from that list of racist suspects. Yet I am suffering obvious discrimination with the blessing of arrogant liberal thought.
