And the only group to be denied was a liberal group.

^^^^ That group was targeted for making false statements, unlike every organization that simply had Patriot, Tea Party or Conservative in their name.
    See the difference?

    @Radish

“And the only group to be denied was a liberal group.”

But, they were not denied BECAUSE they were a liberal group. Emerge Maine was a blatantly political group.
♦Excerpts from the IRS letter of denial:
    • “Based on the information provided, we have concluded that you do not qualify for exemption under section 501(cX4) of the Code. The basis for our conclusion is set forth below.”
    • “Your activities do not primarily promote social welfare because you primarily benefit private individuals and interests.”
    • “Educational activities undertaken to provide a partisan benefit are considered to serve private interests, rather than the common good”
    • “According to your Articles and Bylaws, your primary activity is to train and recruit Democratic women to run for political office”
    • "Because your primary activity is an educational program that is limited to Democratic women and conducted with the partisan objective of increasing the number of Democratic elected officials you primarily serve private interests. Therefore, the operation of your program does not promote socialwelfare within the meaning of section 501©(4) of the Code.
♦ The actual letter is seven pages long and cites court decisions, IRS code, etc. Emerge America lost their 501C4 status over Emerge Maine’s application.

You have been given false information. There were no false statements. Emerge Maine was very forthright on the purpose of their organization in their bylaws and were denied exemption based on their stated purpose.

This whole affair is a good example of how the Taliban Tea Party stirs up a tempest in a tea pot. The IRS did nothing wrong other than to try to scrutinize non-profits tax status. The Congress ended up spending endless hours having hearings, investigating and appearing on TV. In the mean time education, immigration, infrastructure, tax reform, income inequality, etc. got no where. We are paying those guys a good salary to lead the country and getting nothing in return.

It is wearying and disheartening to see supposed facts obtained from sites and blogs maintained by political activists posted here.

Exactly. It is incredible that the cartoonist does not recognize the vastly disproportionate IRS scrutiny or the outright admissions that the IRS was deliberately targeting conservative and tea party organizations.

Yah sure they did, liberal press is doing a good job of covering up the IRS’s crap.

“…..the outright admissions that the IRS was deliberately targeting conservative and tea party organizations.”

Outright admissions? I will admit to not reading every word written about this subject in every publication who printed those words, but I have not seen anyone admit to anything. Do you have a reference to prove that someone admitted this outright?

Why should churches be exempt? Their own Bible tells them to pay the taxes.

No group that has the word “Conservative” in its name has anything to do with politics and should be granted tax exemption status.

Did you type that with a straight face? Does butter melt on your tongue?

Well so many Conservative organizations formed, a disproportionate number, they had to look at them anyway.

And the point is the Teaparty groups were political and they were applying for an exemption as a charity.
