Historically, when N.O. wins, the rest of us lose. Let’s rebuild to lose again.

Don’t you just Haiti it when they say that?

ANandy, what on Earth do you mean? Gee whiz, let’s never rebuild San Francisco (earthquake), New York (9/11, fires), Boston (fires), LA (earthquake), St. Louis (floods, earthquakes), Chicago (fire), Miami (hurricanes), Charleston (hurricane)…and that’s just based on history thus far. There are fault lines under many East coast cities (and, unfortunately, some nuclear power plants)…

RV- agree.
Motive- rebuilding BELOW sea level, and using “cost plus contractors” to build inadequate levees, and allowing construction on, or destruction of, barrier islands and other natural barriers, which INCREASES hurricane damage, is stupid. LIkewise, the Corps of Engineers in the midwest is finally taking out some of their idiotic channelization projects that actually INCREASED FLOOD DAMAGE!
Plate tectonics is a real, ongoing “natural” event we have improved designs to prevent damage.
Building up in desert areas that don’t have any water to begin with is also much dumber than even building in hurricane zones.
At least they learned to keep oil lamps out of the milk sheds in Chicago.
