Eduardo – do you know my favorite thing about Texas? (other than the fact that Jerry Jones, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer all played football at Arkansas)

“Be silent friend here heroes died to blaze the trail for other men.”

[Note to Anne – I said all that without using a single cuss word]

For what it’s worth, one of my Great Grandfathers fought at the battle of San Jacinto, and his brother died at the Alamo.

The next time I am in the Rough Rider Bar in the Menger Hotel I will gaze at Teddy’s portrait and raise a glass in your great grandpa’s honored memory.

LEWIS, WILLIAM IRVINE (1806–1836). “William Irvine Lewis, Alamo defender, son of Dr. Charles W. and Mary Bullen (Irvine) Lewis, was born in Virginia on June 24, 1806. He was later a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He had been visiting a friend in North Carolina when he decided to travel to Texas. His journey led him to San Antonio de Béxar and the Alamo. He died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836. Sometime after his death, Lewis’s mother wrote to Texas requesting some memento of her son and was sent a small monument carved from a stone from the Alamo ruins.”
I just raised a glass to him myself…
