Japan has high test scores because they only educate and test their “elite” students. In America, we educate and test EVERY student. If we only tested our elite students, we would outperform them. I believe it that strongly because look at the Nobel Prizes, USA has one over 300. Second place is England with less than 200.

Read any forums with reader replies (replys) and check the spelling and grammar (grammer) . Frightening how poorly people write (rite). And don’t even mention punctuation.

Yes, you can tell I am old. We used to have 10 new words to spell and understand every week, even through high school years ago.

I owe much of my success at university to Miss Florence Dahlberg who taught academic English in Monmouth IL when I had the good fortune to be one of her students.

And further success to Dr. Durward Prudden who taught social studies at NYU, again many years ago. (I know, it is not a pure complete sentence, it is literary embellishment) He had his students learn to outline, check facts, and understands the subtleties of propaganda.

I feel sorry for bright students who are being short changed by the dumbing down of education. Of course, it serves the powers that be, since people don’t think critically and make intelligently thought out choices.
