Saturnalia was the Roman April Fools’ Day, more or less, when everyone’s role was reversed – masters acted as servants and vice versa – and everyone gave small presents. It was considered a high point of the Roman year. Christmas landed on the date it did because of Saturnalia - easy to conceal one holiday in another, and the theme of gifting apparently carried over!
To paraphrase Pyrrhos of Epeiros, a few more troop surges like this and the US Empire is lost. Let us hope the end isn’t too bloody, and that we do get that Peace on Earth, if only for a time….

God it’s hard to be a Jesus lover in company with schizophrenic Christ-claimers and nihilistic joke-tellers

Peace on earth? Beyond humanity’s ability to accomplish. Nice idea. But we’re insufficient to the task.
