He hates people thanking him. Who do they think they are, thanking me? Grrrr.

Well … seriously. I’m reminded of the words of the US pilot who was shot down in Bosnia, who when rescued was a nine-day wonder, had his face all over the media and was called a hero by everyone. He said that, in fact, he was a scared rabbit hiding for all he was worth, and that the SAR personnel who risked their lives searching for him were the real heroes.

This is a great summer story line. I’m curious to see where it goes.

On a side note, I had no idea how much drama went on at country clubs during the summer months. Year after year it’s one thing or another.

I have a friend who was a POW. He resented being called a hero. He felt the heroes were that ones that didnt’ surrender.

I think we have a pretty long explanation coming from Steve. Maybe we can have some Gil flashbacks to his military days as well.

So if you’re missing an arm random people come up to you and assume you’re a hero? It’s not like he’s wearing a uniform or anything.

He’ll be in Molly’s britches before it’s all said and done.

Steve just has the wrong people thanking him. He needs someome more like this: http://www.gocomics.com/nancy/2012/07/27

On the other hand (wait, is that OK to say), maybe Steve is just ticked off because he did not lose his arm serving our country, but over some lousy bet when drunk. Imagine how ticked he would be later when the guy who took it decided after sobering up that a detached arm is not as useful as he imagined the night before.

Today also marks the return of the Phantom of the Opera drawing style. Steve has what appears to be a long scar, but is actually the edge of a mask, running down his face in the first panel. It has mysteriously vanished in the third.
