I sure hope they aren’t former Edmonton PD or LAPD officers….….seriously, this storyline (despite the absurdity of 5 brawny security guards required to escort a middle aged woman out the building) is all too familar….

If I was in that situation, the moment I stepped off the corporate property I would be using language that would make a sailor blush.

During layoffs about 3 yrs ago @ the company I work for, a coworker that was let go was slamming her stuff into a box yelling how "her projects weren’t the ones canceled and that the “*itch” whose was should be packing! It was my project but in the 2.5 yrs there I had bothered myself by being cross trained as much as possible. The supervisor hissed, the VP told her that wasn’t needed and then here came the President of the comp. “Leave in quiet or I’m tearing up your severance package and firing you instead.” To say the least, she shut up fast and you could here a pin drop for the rest of the day.

On a somewhat related topic, weren’t there a series of strips a few years ago in which Betty returned to college (in addition to work, I believe)? Does anyone remember those? It seems to me that the subject just died out, but I’m trying to recall.

One time when I was leaving a job, my boss was watching as I packed up my office, and he inspected each and every file folder I took to make sure the contents weren’t proprietary. What he didn;t realize was that he was letting me get away with pinchng about fifty bucks’ worth of hanging file folders…

As it turns out, I got out of there just in time. Two months later, there was a massive layoff and my name was on the hit list.

@Monkeyhead:Being laid off is the same as being fired. There’s no guarantee you’ll be asked back. In my case, the company I worked for, I took early retirement to avoid being fired. Then they decided to discontinue one part of their business. March 31st of this year, the branch office here closed after 35 years after starting in one city, then moving 70-80 miles south to another. Companies being loyal to their employees is exceedingly rare. People who are loyal to the company are the ones getting hurt.

Like I said for June 30th:

Betty has become a “soap opera” and man, now I really empathize with her. Wonder how the cartoon will evolve. I hope Betty gets to fulfill her writer’s dreams and Alex will probably get laid off with everyone else because the company will fold. They fired too many & production will go down because too much pressure & work load will be laid on the remainder. Those left to DO all the other jobs will reach a level of incompetency.

It’s “The Peter Principle” in effect. It’s a belief that in an organization where promotion is based on achievement, success, and merit, that organization’s members will eventually be promoted beyond their level of ability. The principle is commonly phrased, “employees tend to rise to their level of incompetence.”

Think about how Alex got her job in the first place. Wasn’t because she was competent, it was because she knew how to “con” those in authority, a true con artist. “Acumen” remember?

Anyway, hope the writers agree with me and show Alex what a loser she really is and that Betty truly is the winner here. She’ll become a best selling writer and Alex will be on welfare or homeless on the street begging for food where she “eventually” belongs.

Wonder where the writers got the idea of the “riot squad” to escort her out? If situations like that really exist, we are in trouble. Can’t even express a simple grievance. Her office has become a police state. More police then regular employees! Too bad she didn’t see it coming!Could this really exist?!!!?

Go for it Betty. Use and abuse security. Give them the boxes of your personal stuff to carry out to your car. You save your back and they get the satisfaction of knowing you have left the premises.
