The sad thing, of course, is that this is the truth of what happens to most of our physical e-waste that gets thrown out or is supposedly being recycled by unscrupulous companies.
Millions upon millions of dollars are being invested into “data centers” – rooms filled with high-end server computers – and all they do is store millions of pictures, videos, etc – and preserved for all time. Millions of years from now, when a future intelligence discovers our digital artifacts, they are going to have to sift through a lot of junk – abstract facebook posts, instagram photos of ‘cute’ japanese food… and pictures of cats.
