    Back in the day the other three guys in the Mumbles Quartet tried to double cross him and he almost blew up the boat they were on. You know who saved the day.

    “No corpus delicti!” Chester Gould loved this phrase; he used it during the original Mr. Crime story to explain the vine’s purpose, and it was Mr. Bribery’s catchphrase during his run in the 60’s.Google it.Mr. Adonis was introduced on Jan. 11, 1980; he was originally a member of the robbery division before joining the MCU. He was a regular until May 1983 and made a cameo appearance in July 1988 during the Doll Trohs case.Mumbles was smarter in the 40’s…

    Yeah, Mumbles ought to know better. Even the boys in his quartet are wiser!Tess is looking very professional; I hope she was sincere about her intent to have called Dick. Johnny appears to be perpetually caught in a ’70s time warp with his turtleneck, full sideburns, and mustache.

One question, did johnny appear in the strip before lee ebony? i remember the panel in the strip when they showed up but cant recall if they debuted at the same time. i think its time for a lee ebony/johnny adonis/mcu reunion! :) SOMEBODY give me a one panel pic of the whole gang! :)

    Johnny looks very Flescher-esque. It’s great how Joe can adapt characters from different eras of the strip and they all look like they belong together.

    Apparently, tan and mint green are the official colors of the Tracy Agency.

    Check this out … I could be wrong about this … but I think the person who colored today’s strip mistakenly colored Johnny Adonis’ graying temple flesh color. I’m guessing that Joe and Shelley intended to add a little age to Adonis.

    Mumbles may be slow, but he’s not in prison. Johnny reminds me of a young Leroy Neiman.

    @Oak Ridge Boys61

    Sure, the muerte vine needs its feeding, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Vinyl was the stiff Doublup fed to the plant.I’m just going to wait and see.

    Johnny Adonis!! Awesome!! Also, it looks like Dick supports Tess’ occupation. Sure, she may have been blindsided by Nuremoh, but she did show promise during a particular payroll job set up by Big Boy (Jan 29, 1932) Here’s hoping she picked up some of Dick’s skills since that time. Also, that quick claim… Mumbles must have gotten his head rattled a few times since Kiss Andtel left the band.

    Since we know that Mumbles is working for Mr. Crime, how is it that Mumbles did something so dumb? Wouldn’t he be taking his orders from Panda, who would certainly know better?

    hey correct me if i’m wrong (and i am SURE you all will! lol) but wasnt mumbles’ “schtick” that his words werent completely formed and muttered? nothing against him right now but the “fun part” of reading a story with mumbles was trying to figure out what he was saying.. for example letters were missing from his words, etc. this time around the words seem to “sound clearer” but spelled incorrectly.

    From the old Wikipedia:Corpus Delicti is one of the most important concepts in a murder investigation. When a person disappears and cannot be contacted, many police agencies initiate a missing person case. If, during the course of the investigation, detectives believe that he/she has been murdered, then a “body” of evidentiary items including physical, demonstrative, and testimonial evidence, must be obtained to establish that the missing individual has indeed been murdered before a suspect can be charged with homicide.2 The best and easiest evidence establishment in these cases is the physical body of the deceased. However, in the event that a physical body is not obviously present or has not yet been discovered, it is possible to prove a crime took place if sufficient circumstantial evidence is presented to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

    Since I don’t know latin, I tried finding out what the punch line of the above poem means. Here is my best guess.corups – to glitter, glitteringdelieti – to determine, to be determined, resolve, to consider, deliberateI At least have a corpse—though no sparkling resolve.Anyone else have a better definition?

    I do know what Corpus Delicti means, some of Gould’s villains frequently didn’t… :-)
