Got pliers? Make an S-hook out of an old coat hanger. Hook it in the chain to lift it to the ceiling. The shade (and glare from the light) will hide the bight of chain hanging down. No other tools needed. You could even bend back and forth so metal fatigue breaks the hanger wire and bend it in your hands, but you will get sore thumbs. Coat hangers, of course, can be found reproducing in the back of the closet.
