Repetition of this theme is getting as old as the argument that the oil companies don’t control the price, with a little help from their friends, like Cheney et al.
dtroutma – While Obama doesn’t make the calls on the price per barrel of oil, he has TONS of influence as to whether it spikes or drops. These facts do NOT LIE:
I’ve just given you facts with Obamas fingers in things WITH dates and and the effect is has on oil. Try as you might, you can’t spin your way out of this.
Ah… Steve. Just when you had us all believing you were working directly for David Axelrod, you do this. It’s a rare day when I like your work, and this is one of them. Thing is, didn’t Barry want these gas prices even higher?
My own experience, like masterskrain’s, goes back a long way with oil companies, friends, family, personal experience. I’ve dealt with “energy” companies on pipelines, drilling, and transmission line permits. I’ve also dealt with some of the people developing “algae fuels” on smaller scales, and Exxon Mobil, among others, are investing millions (at a minimum) into biofuels. Alternatives DO make sense, and that is the reason “oil companies” ARE now “energy companies”, and they’re active in Congress to see they have the same stranglehold on “alternatives” they now have on “oil”.
“Gas wars” back in the “old days” WERE about driving all the independent oil (gasoline) producers out of business and building the monopolies that exist today. Those “energy companies” ARE now trying to lock “independents” out of the “alternatives” market. That is where regulations need to be looked at, and agencies work for the public, not corporations and monopoly. (FERC is an example of an agency that goes with corporations every time!)

And the ones insisting that the price of oil be $92 or more is Saudi Arabia, so they can meet their “social obligations”. They even admitted to it.

Obama will find a way to bring down gas prices right before the election to (attempt to) boost his popularity.

There’s a typo here – polls should be spelled p-o-l-l.

Petroleum prices are set in the international market-place. The President could mandate lower pump prices. Conservatives would go for that.
