Jack: I did my time in ‘Nam, and saw the reality of that little “dustup”. My son picked up some who were NOT “just goat herders”and sent some to Gitmo. Others didn’t have to worry any longer about “meeting their virgins”. We are both now disabled veterans.
I know whose side I"m on, I just wish more CLAIMING to be “Americans” who saw nothing, thought about nothing, and DID nothing would wake up and see the truth.
There is a distinct difference between being anti stupid, idiotic wars where we have absolutely no business, and being a “pacifist”. I’m not, and never have been a “pacifist”.
Likewise, there IS a difference between being a true patriot, who cares about, and loves his country enough to ask our leaders NOT to screw up, and get our kids killed for corporate profits; and being an IDIOT (and coward) who hears and beats to the war drums, but sends someone ELSE to fight for him!
jack, another little “coincidence”: A neighbor introduced me to his brother-in-law as we were talking. I had been “ragging” on the “officer corps” we have, and that neither my son or I got along well with “idiots with rank”. Also mentioned some of he “non-classified” things my son did when overseas. After a while, my neighbor asked his BIL to tell me what he did in the Army. Turned out, after an “embarrassing moment” he confessed he retired as a general, and his last assignment was running a portion of Gitmo!
He then added that some of the same folks my son “contacted” had been his "guests’. He also confirmed that many of those guests, especially early on, were just folks their neighbors didn’t like, so turned them in to our “less than informed policy” folks, and got them shipped off. This isn’t any secret, it’s well documented, as Eryx cited one of many sources.
No, they were NOT all “armed and picked up in combat zones”. Also, WE with ISI CREATED “the Taliban”, who had NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11!! They didn’t know where bin Laden was hiding any more than we did, in fact, they had even LESS of a clue than we did, before we spent 8 years “looking for him”. Going after Al Qaeda camps in the north was justified. Removing the “government”, even a crappy one we got started, was a stupid move in Afghanistan, one we will still be paying for for a long, long, time, thanks to “W” and clan’s TOTAL INCOMPETENCE!!
