Sorry to say it, but I think Annie is being given too much slack as a character with all this running away from justice tale. Any other would be called very nasty names just for that . And it is not as if she could call call daddy Warbucks any second and he would send an army of lawyers or other kind to her rescue.
Y’all have hit on what, in my opinion, is one of the main reasons the strip was canceled. With all the modern technology, cell phones, the internet, etc., there is no reason why the ward of a millionaire would have to be out on her own. The story was beginning to break any reasonable stretch of the imagination and was creating too much of a challenge to the story writer.

Curtis and Staton HAVE NOT DONE an outstanding job in the Dick Tracy crossovers, or the strip in generall….. crossovers are a gasping grasp for any help or direction in a dead end to their stewardship of the Dick Tracy franchise. They have taken their shot at what could have been an evolutionary step for the strip and missed the target.
