Maybe Holly should be reminded that Cinderella got the prince in the end. The rest of the story is that in real life, guys like it when gals know how to DO stuff besides sit around and look pretty.

@RinaFarina, it’s also known that soaking the pot in WD-40 for about half-hour and then washing it with soap will clean it (works with stainless-steel) even WITHOUT the steel-wool.

Even easier trick to cleaning, baking soda. While the pan is still warm add 2 tablespoons of baking soda, a quick squirt of dish soap and 1 cup of water. By the time you finish dinner and start on dishes whatever was burned or stuck to your pan wipes right out. This was the best trick grandma ever taught me. Very rarely do I have to get out the scrubbers.

Holly should try working in a movie theater sometime. I work in one, and so I sweep up A LOT of popcorn, throw away the big trash, (popcorn tubs and big drink cups as an example), and even mop up spills.Trust me, what she does at home is NOTHING compare to that, especially if someone screws with the rest room and it takes nearly an hour to clean it all up.

Holly after you’re done sweeping, mop the floors, wash windows & clean soot

The old WD-40 to the rescue again!!! It makes about ANYTHING move (or remove) and there’s always duct tape for things that move when you don’t want them to.

Gee, free room and board for a few chores -sounds like a fair trade to me! Try paying a mortgage AND doing chores!

They should be glad Mom didn’t go back to school. Mine did, full-time. I took over the cleaning (including after the dog, who was elderly…need I say more) and my sister (9 at the time) ran the washer and dryer and helped make supper. 7-year-old brother was lucky, all he had to do was keep his room neat and stay out of trouble.

Maybe Holly would prefer the soup kitchen or the Goodwill.

another good way to get stuff off a burnt pot is to fill the pot with water and boil it on the stove for a while – this often loosens the gunk off without harming the pot.

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. These put me in mind of another trick, to remove scale from a kettle; use vinegar.

Now all I have to do is decide in what order I’ll try what. The way the pot is now, it can’t be used for anything anyway – unless you like that delicious carbon flavour?? I’m under the impression it’s good for the digestion? But can’t be very good for the taste buds!

I LOVE the facial expressions in “Stone Soup”. They make the comic day after day. Today’s are fantastic.

Best part of using baking soda, no fumes to hurt you, not harmful to the environment, it’s a great soft abrasive…and it softens the hands while cleaning!
