We might remember that Assad looked like a real dork when he took over from his dad, and everyone thought his nerdy appearance made him “innocent”. It isn’t likely that he’ll reverse the policies of his dad, but Americans are far too ready to make snap judgements on progeny or appearances. Think about the FACT that GHW Bush said invading Iraq to remove Saddam would be STUPID, and that over ten years of war and bombing had rendered Saddam a eunuch with only a propaganda machine, and internal cruelty toward his own, fueled by resentment over getting betrayed and kicked in the teeth by his “friends” in Washington.
