Black and white! If this is the result of a New Year’s resolution, I hope it’s one they never break!

Just plain awesome. I even like that Sam still smokes, even thought that’s not cool these days.

Just selected the B/W version to display on my page … it’ll be interesting to see what happens to it when GoComics posts the color version … ??? Will it suddenly be in color as well… ?

I suspect the black and white is only temporary. Sigh…

Look at those arms on old Mr. Cueball. He seems to be fit, but he’s also a cynical somebody.

Yay for black & white! Let’s enjoy it while we can. I think Cueball is going to end up behind the 8 ball.

@R_Noonan63 There’s more or less been a reboot, sine Mike and Joe came on the beat. So there’s no telling whom might show up. Aint it grand?!!

When I was a kid, there was a municipal garbage pit on the road to my Grandma’s house, where they practised open burning. The smell was awful. And a lit cigarette dangling off of someone’s lip smells pretty much the same as that old garbage dump.I know this is a comic strip, I know that Sam’s character has always been a smoker, and as I’ve said before, I LIKE Sam – he is a great character in so many ways.But in the real world, the simple fact is that burning tobacco STINKS. A lit cigarette, in particular, produces a nasty, gut-wrenching stench. And, if someone lights up in public, those of us who don’t smoke can’t get away from it. It makes it hard for us to breath. THAT’S why smoking is frowned upon in public places. It has nothing whatsoever to do with “political correctness”Thank you for allowing me to “air” my views. (pun intended.)

Love to let you “air” you views, trouble is the crusaders in this country have been given too much leeway. The prime example is the outlawing of smoking in bars. Bars are meant for smokers and drinkers, leave them alone. Michigan changed the law 1 or 2 years ago and alot of the small neighborhood bars are out of business now, along with workers being laid off. Oh by the way I have never smoked, but I loved my small neighborhood bar, just put up with the smoke.

People smoke. A good comic strip team knows that. A great comic strip team like this one lets a good guy be human.

Oh, and the B&W today is pretty cool. I notice that “Ink Pen” is also in B&W and I’m wondering if maybe the gocomics colorist is just taking the day off. Doonesbury, Non Sequitur and Frazz (all of which, I believe, are colored by their artists) are in color today. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow…

It’s not unusual in real life for two different criminals to have the same moniker (e.g. George “Bugs” Moran/Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel; George “Machine Gun” Kelly/Jack “Machine Gun” McGurn; etc.)..In any event, if memory serves, the character from the RKO Tracy film died.

Banning smoking in restaurants and bars was NOT for the comfort or preference of the customers… it was meant as a health measure for the employees!

The news that this continuity will run through MID JULY (!) just made my year—-okay now this strip is absolutely perfect.

The art under the new team was always there and wonderfully film noirish. My one beef was the monthly episodic nature of the thing, based on a decree by the Syndicate as I understand it.

But now—MID JULY!??!? Thank you thank you thank you! Okay— I’m going to sit back and really enjoy this! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
