Everyone pays taxes. It’s only if you ignore sales tax, state tax, payroll tax, and all the other taxes that you can come up with this number. The important number is that the rich do not pay as much of their income in taxes as the middle class, and so far every GOP contender has promised to make it much, much worse.
okay, so I pay more than 29.1% and the republicans are not promising me any tax cuts, in fact they’re threatening to take away more of my benefits by the day, what say you HOWGOZIT ? But I’m not with the 99% cause of that, I’m with the 99% cause a lot more keeps going to the top 1% and a lot more gets taken away from me and the rest and all I see the GOP do is complain about the 40% (making barely enough to survive) not paying more (perhaps an arm here a leg there to help the poor rich people buy another yatch)
If the bottom 40% gets refunds — it’s because they have had too much taken from their paychecks too soon. .A refund is not some ‘benefit’ that they get, it is a belated correction of their having been overtaxed. ! !
Some people actually get more refund than they paid in, it’s called the Working Income Tax Credit. These are the poorest of the poor, and it’s a very effective system to keep them in homes, working at jobs, productive, and not on the streets. I’m fine with that. But we have a wider distribution of wealth than all but five countries in the world, and it’s not doing anyone any good in the long run.
Howie, you need a dose of reality. While you are complaining about making ‘Under 70K’, 40% of American families are making less than 23K. If you’re suffering financially, it’s because of your spending habits, not your lack of income.
