    I read this in a march cadence, aka “I don’t know but I’ve been told. . . .”

It’s time for everyone to admit that 90% of the time, this strip makes no sense to anyone but Johnson.

Good one. I think of this when I see groups of “power walkers”. It’s clear enough, especially with the last panel. Here’s a complete quote: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041163/quotes?qt=qt0437832

What fun is life if you can’t gather a little from the fringes? LOL

The response is supposed to be “You’re right!” Come on Janis….“Your mother was there when you left.” “You’re right!”

I used to be in the Navy and I know the cadences..always fun.

I get these strips because in some ways, Arlo & Janis are alot like my husband and I. The odd couple in the town. Actually, we are more Ted & Sally Forth. Neighbors think we are weird. We are liked “well enough” not to have them chase us with pitchforks and torches. There is something to be said for that I guess.

It does help if you’ve served in the military. Marching cadences/jody calls were a part of daily life for me back in the day.

I don’t recall Arlo ever mentioning having been in the service, though. Not after that incident at the Draft Board when his arrest for littering was aired, with the 8×10 color photographs with the circles and the arrows and a paragraph on the back telling what each one was…

[“I read this in a march cadence.”

You’re right!]…left, right, left… We have ROTC here and sometimes they march/jog around campus doing cadence calling. It’s fun to listen to (they keep it clean).

If they’re keeping it clean, it MUST be ROTC…

I rarely ever Don’t get A&J. It seems like he must have cameras in our house & thens writes the strip about us. There’s a huge # of people who feel the same way I do, so the strip most always makes sense to us. Mybe it’s aimed heavily at those people so others don’t always get it. It may be an age thing…..the really young don’t get it or maybe it’s a little deep for some.
