They don’t mean cutting literally, and just so that you know, they ALWAYS start at the bottom of the totem pole and work their way up when it comes to firing employees.

Hey, hey, hey….in this economy, you don’t cut people….you cut hours. This way, everyone keeps their job. Unless you’re union. Then you’re screwed.

arsmall, a lot of “independent” insurers nonetheless have strong ties to big corporations. I’m not exactly sure how it works, and I’m not going to insist this ISN"T a continuity lapse, but Wally might own his own company and still be answerable to, say, National Union or State Farm or something.
