Can someone ecplain what purpose unoins actually serve?

    .

I know back in the day they fought for safe working conditions, equal pay for equal work, standard work hours, freedom from discrimination and the like. But now all of those things are covered by legislation.

    .

The sole purpose of the unions now is to drive up salaries and line their own pockets. They are singlehandedly killing numerous industries in this country.

Hoffa urged people to vote and ‘throw the SOB’s out.’ If you wish to picture someone with a club threatening people, maybe a hired pinkerton thug would be more appropriate. Labor has had its flaws, but they pale in comparison to the thuggery and corruption in the corporate management.

40 hour work week, paid vacations, parental/post-natal leave, valid salaries, pensions (that industry has cancelled), health care plans (that “industry” has cancelled), improved standard of living, improved lifestyles for even NON-unon folks who benefit from union actions, representation in court-like SCOTUS when “employer” tries to take away civil rights (I was in on that one), safer working conditions (even today with increased mechanization), treatment for “black lung” and other “industrial” diseases, yes, “unions” still DO provide services for the 8% of workers still served by them, as “government” and “industry” have taken away rights for the last 25 years since Reagan orchestrated serious “union busting” as policy.

“I know back in the day they fought for safe working conditions, equal pay for equal work, standard work hours, freedom from discrimination and the like. But now all of those things are covered by legislation.”

They also fought for Social Security and Medicare, two things the Rebulicans want to get rid of. Although they haven’t gotten around to attacking the legislation that keeps us safe from abuses, clowns like Rand Paul and Mike Lee want to get rid of those laws since “the gubbermint shouldn’t be telling corporations and businessowners what to do.”

“I owe my soul to the Company Store” Yes. I truly know what Ernie Ford was singing about. Thank you, Theodore Roosevelt, for your service to America from bringing us outta THAT excess of Capitalism. But, that was yesterday’s Century. Get over it, you GD Lefties. These gangsters / Teamsters / organized criminals are precisely what the rubes / red necks / organized criminals that The Left presume them to be. Useful idiots. Hello, Vladimir Lenin / George Orwell…
