An untruth is an untruth. Doesn’t matter if the untruth is about something that only matters a little bit to those involved or it matters a lot. It’s still a lie. There aren’t any big or small, black or white lies. They’re all lies.
You can avoid hurting people without lying. Either don’t comment, or say something nice that’s true. Few things are more valuable than a deserved reputation for honesty, especially with your spouse.
