You’d think the adults would be happy to be getting rid of that dour kid for a few hours every day. I wasn’t all that dour, and Mom always seemed more than pleased to rid herself of me and the three sibs when the school bus came.
My mother used to greet the school bus driver with flowers on the first day of school!
