It’s a palliative puppet show, so the question of the puppets’ sterility is moot. Even if a new infection finishes him off faster, at this point the patient would welcome it (it would also free up the bed space faster).
But I say lose the puppets and screen a Porky Pig cartoon. When he says "Th-tha-th-tha-That’s ALL, Folks!, pull the plug.
