‘American Exceptionalism’ is a fantasy created by the far Right. If you list the Firsts in space exploration, you see the Soviets had most of them, including the first satellite, animal, man, woman, and space station. The USA has the satellites that have traveled the farthest from the sun, the first men on the moon, and the first martian explorers. This hardly supports the claim of ‘Exceptionalism’ by a bunch of pompous windbags and one rather average cartoonist.
^And with Republican brilliance, OUR “economic system” is about to nose dive into bankruptcy!! It isn’t just “the system”, but who runs it. A mix of systems, like a mix of crops, rather than a simple monoculture, is more resilient, safer, and more productive. THAT is what neither “Communists”, “Socialists”, OR “Capitalists” ever stop to consider, or accept.

Obama’s speech on American Exceptionalism is the only rational thing I’ve ever read on the subject. It’s quite well thought out (and yes, he does believe in American Exceptionalism. This is McCarthyist smearing.)
And, of course, it was Bush who canceled the shuttle program, not Obama, so the cartoon is lying there too. One could ask Republicans how much additional taxation will they accept for American Exceptionalism? So far, the answer is not one thin dime.
