This so true. I bought a car once and it broke down on my way home from paying the last payment.

The story of Skeezix and Nina has been one of the world’s great love stories. I wonder if Scancarelli is metaphorically foreshadowing their simultaneous demise, perhaps in an appliance installation accident. And if so, I wonder who is represented by the washer, and who by the dryer.

One of the things I’ve always loved about this strip is how it can take the mundane and make it interesting.Axe-Grinder – I hope you’re wrong. I’m not ready to see these 2 go yet.

By the way, I’d recommend a front-loading washer.

I always get a kick out of the sounds all the new machines make. It used to be the just stopped running when they were done. Maybe the dryer buzzed. Our new front loader washed plays this musical chime. To me it sounds like we’ve won a free game on it.

Been there a few times. Now my daughter’s guy gets them when people are remodeling or moving. So far our washing machine and dryer are doing okay. Saved a ton of money.

When you get older, it is not the appliances, it is the dentures and the bridges that go out at a bad time. Ever notice how much dentists charge for the appliances in your mouth? And how about the appliances in your guts and lungs? Doctors are expensive. Without kids, washers and dryers last longer. And food is less expensive.

Luckily those new appliances are always ‘on sale’ – meaning available for purchase.

Wait until they deliver the new washer and dryer, and it turns out to be that it’s just a tripped breaker.

Skeezix must have given up fixing them himself.

It takes a very careful and fine-tuned design to last precisely the length of a warranty…
