My son is tall, but can, and has, run nuclear plants- his options for the future do NOT include continuing to do so! He’s passing on a PhD in physics for veterinary— even lions and “wild things” don’t melt down.
Another of Obama’s fantasies revealed. If you are green enough to believe Obama, you are too green to run a nuclear power plant. If your nuclear power plant is shovel ready, chances are you are shovel ready, as well.
fennec, the problem is that it turns out that the NRC has been dealing with our aging nuclear plants (all of which were designed to be replaced by superior plants by now) by lowering the standards for safety qualifications.
Folks should NOT demand regulation of nuclear power plants, it should be a self-policing industry, just like banking, Wall Street, and chemical manufacturing- all that “government interfering with profit” will destroy America! FREE ENTERPRISE, FREE MARKETS! Remove all STOP signs, let people be FREE of “regulations”!
Actually, Tigger, I’m old enough to remember the Bay of Pigs, “duck & cover” drills in school, Sputnick, being told not to eat snow because it containing radiation from tthe atomic tests we were doing . . .
There are a lot of topics here that have ‘on point’ comments. I am for Nuke Electricity, but not the way it’s being managed now. Part of the blame has been correctly assigned, including psychotic opposition to any Nuke Plant replacement. Sadly, our Nuke Submarines are not being retired and instead are having their mechanical ‘life’ reclassified. We would be better off to moor the Subs permanently and connect their generators to the Power Grid. The design of the Sub Nuke Reactors is superior to any land Nuke Plant and so much safer.

Feynman’s observations after the shuttle diaster addressed the ignorance of this mentality.
