I wonder if JK Rowling didn’t get her idea of King’s Cross station from this.
In the days of the fancy, well appointed passenger stations (such as depicted here) freight trains did not pull in to the station – they were on separate,tracks. (Ah, well, ’tis fantasy we are dealing with here.)
