It’s not stuck. Obama called the head of Special Olympics before the show even aired, and issued an apology immediately. Compared to claiming connections between Sadaam Hussein and 9/11 and warning of stockpiles of WMDs and biological warfare labs, etc, the special olympics gaffe doesn’t even register on the Richter scale of presidential mistakes.
The Iraq invasion was planned when Bush entered office; 9/11 gave them an excuse. Actually, it was planned long before, when his father was in office, with the same neocons on staff. He, on the other hand, had a clue and told them forget it.
They mocked Obama for being a lame bowler, and saw it as a disability. He popped a one-liner, and the very lame right-wingers who decried his special education increases attack? The truly “disabled” are the ones making it an issue. Many of my friends are disabled vets, like me, and I support Special Olympics. I thought the line was great in context.
Anthony, motive, yes, they started planning a “regime change” in Iraq within the first 30 days of Bush’s presidency. I think this fact has been confirmed by about five people now, five people who were in the room. Started with Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, and 9/11 just gave them the opportunity to manufacture a reason and at some point, Bush jumped on board.
It was a gaffe, he apologized. It’s over. However, the best line I read was from a Special Olympics bowler who said, (I paraphrase), “With his scores, he’d never get past the first round.”
cdward, agreed. Talk about reaching, gotta grab any little thing to criticize. To me this whole thing says more about the critics. From what I’ve been reading, those who have the most reason to take offense seem more amused and have thrown back zingers of their own. If they seem satisfied, then it’s time to drop it.
That is funny, CD….I have to say that it is difficult for me to criticize a BHO flub when we saw 8 years of GWB flubs. It’s the double standard that is upsetting.

I don’t think those Bush administration actions were “mistakes”, BCS.
The latter were probably planned prior to 9/11.
