The draw-down begins in July, so this strip is pretty weak medicine. Given that Bush ignored Afghanistan for seven years while sending our troops to invade and occupy Iraq (which had no WMDs nor any connection with 9-11), it is hard to see how Obama is the one living in an alternative universe.

Pequod’s take is why the last strip is better than this one.I think the [second part of the syllogism?] on this should be about Gitmo, which he isn’t going to follow through with.

Afghanistan didn’t have any direct link to 9/11 or Osama either.
Also, the US presence will continue far beyond June…there is no set date for complete withdrawal.
The US is like herpes…we never leave voluntarily.

^Some link it to the rare earth minerals that are in Afghanistan. Some say it was War Bush’s attempt to keep terrorist group’s hate for the U.S. alive. Some say its the military industrial complex.
The excuses are many, the result is still the same: We ain’t leaving.

Hey all.I know Osama had nothing to do with why we were in Afghanistan. But most Americans thought it did. The cartoon is about that perception.

It’s almost as if this military general is talking to GW, only GW never found him, and the guy here looks more like Obama. Only Obama’s not an idiot. So the strip is nonsensical.

Speaking as a layman, but doesn’t describing a cartoon mean that its original execution is a little awry, particularly if a layman such as myself fails to grasp the thrust of its intended irony, Mr. Rall? That, or I’m just stupid, as I’ve never understood Obama’s policies. . .
