Wally: Everything OK at your house? Val: Nothing a few Band-Aids couldn't fix....is that COQ AU VIN? Wally: For our first official couple's dinner I wanted to make something I'd never make for the KIDS. Andy: COQ AU VIN? YUM! Wally: You're supposed to be at a CONCERT. Andy: Band cancelled! Great SAUCE!

Sorry kid you’re not invited. Now put that down and go to your room.

Hear, hear, Macushlalondra! Don’t waste good food on teenagers – they barely taste it. But at least he seems to appreciate it.
By the way, what is Joan doing in panel 2? Kissing Wally for making such a nice meal? Or smelling the food? Interesting expression…

Joan does look odd there….looks like she’s about to kiss his nose!

Time to give up the quiet couples dinner, face it when there is kids involved there is no such thing as quiet!

Macush, Ash, what’s with this constant hostility toward the older children in this strip? You’d think middle-schoolers killed your parents or something. I mean, sure he’s intruding (through no real fault of his own), but at least he’s complimenting the food! That’s already into the realm of ‘exceeds expectations’ for teenagers!

Joan is kissing Wally for making such a great meal, and not having to make it herself.

Yeah, avatar, Andy’s a GREAT kid! He’s polite and appreciative to Joan and Wally, he babysits Luci whenever asks, and when Joan and Wally were having financial troubles he got all packed and ready to go back to his parents to save them the expense. And he even appreciates good cooking. May we all have teenagers like that. For crying out loud, let the boy have some coq au vin!
Holly, on the other hand, IS a bit of a brat.

I think Joan is going “Oooo!” as in “Oooo! Smells yummy!”
Trade Holly for Max or the baby. Andy is indeed a great kid now, but, IIRC, not so great when he first moved in with Uncle Wally. Wally’s got mad (if understated) parenting skillz.

I’m really curious to see how (whether?) this situation will be resolved!

Joan is very happy her husband made a delicious dish. I wish my teenagers when they where that young, now adults and sigh at home no jobs:(, show appreciate when I tried something different. I would just tell them you won’t like it and sometimes :) they would.

llorraine: If you see this I read your comments and I feel :( sorry for you. Mom may have ditched her daughter I guess it depends if she has parental rights. You do have your hands full. I work pt at a place only for boys, where teenagers are a handful and rather be with someone else then home. I hope all goes well with your husbands daughter and everyone is getting counseling.
Mean time I think Phil is handling the situation great. And what a great husband Joan has.

Whose plate did Andy just pick up & start licking? Because I know Wally did not hand that to him!
