Poor Val. There aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done.

You mean like choose a husband who wouldn’t die on her? She drives me nuts sometimes too, but it’s not her fault her husband croaked.

I wonder why she can’t talk Grandma into doing the grocery shopping for her? Grandma can cook, unlike Val! Where’s Grandma getting her food from?

…so now they’ll make a store expedition and buy one quart of milk, one lil’ loaf of bread, one box of cereal, and a pound of hamburger. Then they’ll all be puzzled in three days why there’s never any vittles around…..

When I was growing up the converstation would have ended right after the cereal. Instead of suggesting something else to eat, I would have been told to eat the cereal plain or go hungry.

Yes, Val is a widow. Ironically, it’s Joan who made the bad life choice, with the no-account who knocked her up with Max and then took off, and now she’s the one in the stable, married relationship. Just as in real life, it ain’t fair.

What’s good to drink with olives? (for kids, that is)

Grape Juice is good with olives. And OJ is also good when it’s cut with some water (to much sweet against olives makes for a funny taste).

Seriously…
“Val is a widow? I was sure that she was divorced. Her being divorced would make a better strip.”
How is being divorced a better plot line for a single mom comic? Why is either prefereable? With Joan and Val you have both to explore.
Grandma could help, sure. They could also help Val make a good list to buy once a week. They are all old enough to take some effort off Val so she doesn’t blow a gasket!

Olives for breakfast, Alix? And you complain that playing with earwax is gross…

Grandma home all day, she should be in charge of shopping, having food on hand like Uncle Joe or Grandpa Bub did to earn her keep.
Harumph about 2 months ago
Why doesn’t gramma do the shopping?
