Val: No to steak... no to frozen pizza... no to chips, soda, cookies... yes to chicken, yes to vegetables, yes to fruit, yes to yogurt... Holly: Why are we here??
First she tells them she’s bringing them so they have a say in what gets bought. Then she tells them they can’t have the things they really want. She oughtta make up her mind. She’ll end up buying what she always does anyway so why did she have to bring them?
Steak is expensive, but it’s so good! You have to splurge every once in a while…I do!
What chicken and nothing else? What about pork chops, fish, tuna, etc?! She should let them have organic chips and cookies. They can have sweets every once in a while! Sheesh.
In Eugene (the author’s hometown) there’s Nancy’s yogurt. Mmmmm Part of raising children is to teach them to shop as well as teaching them proper nutrition. And to torture their taste-buds into submission!
The way we handle treats is every kid gets a treat jar and the limit is two treats for dessert, except for the bigger kids because they know what is a good amount of sweets.
So you learn to buy healthy, NON processed food and no junk food.
I hope Val teaches them to cook it all too and have them start making the dinner before she gets home from work.
They are in a “Ground Hog Day” year they live over and over so they can start learning a lot more productive things and start to contribute to this household.

Before they started putting all the sugar and fruit and whatever in yoghurt it was plain and healthy. The plain stuff still is!

Only if it is PURE plain yoghurt (check ingredients–some, especially cheap brands/generics contain gelatin as a filler).

You are there to learn how to be responsible adults and learn how to shop wisely..

Like I tell MY kids…We buy the basic ingredients (no mixes, “kits” and garbage) so we can have the money to buy pizza!

To Liv_Foxtrot: Steak is almost always one of the most expensive choices. What world do you live in?
