The ball-point pen wouldn’t be invented for another 45 years.

The Lazlo (sp?) brother began work on a ball point pen in the 1930s. They perfected and sold it in the 40’s in Argentina, and a while later BIC bought the rights to it. By 1958 it is very possible CB could have had one. He just doesn’t seem to be using it here.
