Thank you, Pett. May Rush, Hannity, and their ilk disappear into the slime from which they came.

Hate radio doesn’t need a villain, they keep their jobs by making up ridiculous stuff about Obama despite all evidence to the contrary. Just one: how can such a cool, calm, and collected dude really being a radical communist out to destroy “our freedom”, especially when Bush already took care of that?

Oldlegodad - the only people talking about that are Rush, Hannity, et al. Reid has already said he had no interest in reviving the Fairness Doctrine. And for the record, the Fairness Doctrine silenced no one. It just said that issues needed to be presented in a “fair and balanced” way, which is something I think a number of people on this list have called for…

Old71 … “if things are arcane then they will go away” try visiting the deep south land. While visiting my Mom, thought I was still in 1955.

oldlegodad - not sure who you mean by “F&B.” Note that I am NOT proposing the reinstitution of the Fairness Doctrine; I am merely pointing out that no one is planning to put it in. The right-wingers, having been openly biased to the Republicans, are afraid it will be put in, and understandably, since that’s what they would have done, given a chance. Did you know that Rush had a sweetheart deal with the US military radio network that compared to no one else? That’s not fair, or right. In any case, Obama seems to be very open to both sides, and he’s already being attacked by the slimebags.

As for free enterprise, the airwaves are (or were) considered the property of the American people; that’s what the FCC was supposed to be guaranteeing. Reagan shifted it towards “market oriented,” which is not necessarily a good thing. Just because something is popular or gets good ratings (not the same thing), does not make it right. In the 1920s, the KKK had a big enough membership to have a 20,000 person march in Washington – did that make them right?

I have also observed that when Fox News got ignored by Obama (after their slimy, biased, racist approach to describing him - remember “baby mama?”), there were howls of protest. My view: you dug your grave, now lie in it. Fox’s ratings have been going down, and they lost some sponsors. Fine by me. Think of it as evolution in action.

As for the “flyover states,” where did you get the idea I had problems with them? Two of my grandparents were from the midwest.
