Does anyone else like the strip reset? What about April? She never happened?

Yes, this is great! April comes along a WHOLE lot later…Lynn was having a mid-life crisis and wanted a baby so she had Elly and John in their late 30’s early 40’s give birth to April. Mike and Liz were preteens when she was born.

Btw, that fall was real nasty Liz just took…ouch!

I am actually pretty bummed about the whole reset. I had over 20 years invested in the characters and plot lines of the family. It has been very hard to see them all tossed away (kinda). I am also fairly close to Michael in age and identified strongly with him. Although it will be nice to see ‘how it all started’, I don’t see why the mature stories had to end either.

According to everything I have read on the re-designing the strip, the characters will not age this time around. That means no April in the strip in the future. This will always be about a young family with two little kids. That’s how Lynn has planned it. She wants to make the strip simpler with the art work and the storyline.

For younger fans like me, it is kinda cool to see Mike and Elizabeth a little kids, since by the time I was following the comic, the were already teens. That was quite a spill…At least Elly did not do like some parents and have a more dramatic reaction that the child herself!!

I’m not digging the reset either. I’m not taking anything away from FBOFW. It’s a living legend. I just feel like it’s been said. Move over and make way for new blood.

I loved the strip as I was exactly the same age as Mike, my brother was the same age as Liz. I got married around the same time, we had kids around the same time (only boy then girl for us). It was like seeing my life in a mirror, only the genders were reversed. I grew up with them; now we have to turn back the clock, only they are now around my kids ages, so it’s starting over for them in sense, if that makes sense ;)

In the military we were trained to strike our enemies in the neck and throat when in close quarters combat for the reasons detailed in the strip. Going through childhood you hit your head and get used to it. As such most punches to the head can be withstood.
