Benson’s always been good at drawing expressive eyes, but this time he topped himself….especially with the child in the lower right corner. I have never seen such brilliant rendering of the look of quiet despair.
May we not see that look again in our lifetime…or the next one.
Allow me to say it again?
If you grew up in the thirties, spent time in the Armed Forces in the South in the forties, as a Northerner from NE, shocked was my reaction then, horrified in the sixties. Some 28% still don’t get it, and maybe never will, but this toon speaks volumes. I have lived long enough to witness this Presidency. Now in the 21st Century I am truly hopeful.
Just maybe, this time, yes we can.

If you think this is all in the past……….wake up…..slavery exists in this land today in lots of real and subtle forms. We have such a long way to go.

Trogon2, Yes, true. But HOPE is a most powerful force, coupled with a desire for freedom. Just maybe, this time, yes we can.

If you’re not being sarcastic Stew, you’re incredibly dim.
Racism is very much alive and well in this country…and if you think slavery is dead, go pay a visit to the US Territory of Saipan some time.

Has anyone of you ever watched “Birth of A Nation” (Silent film of 1915 by a guy named Griffith).
Keep in mind that half a century after the war, that kind of bleeep was allowed.
