I remember one Christmas when I looked in my parents’ closet and found all my gifts ahead of time. It spoiled Christmas morning for me. I never did that again.
My parents had a hiding place in the basement. I’d visit the special item every day. Never spoiled my Xmas. But it was harder to sleep until the big day!
I never even looked for my presents. But my parents assumed I did, and anytime I acted surprised my mom would go “that must be one you found! I’ll know not to hide anything there again!”
…and thus I stopped caring what I got for Christmas at a pretty young age.
