It’s not about the happiness, it’s about paying your parents’ bills and being able to not work, so you can care for them in their own home when they get too old and senile to do it themselves… That’s why my mom wants me to marry a doctor.
VermilionSparrow, tell your mom that the best she’ll get is to move into your home, or else an upscale assisted-living facility (or whatever level of care she needs). Being the only married daughter of a stroke victim (now bedridden), I can’t take care of Mom in her home, and take care of my hubby & kids, too. My widowed sister moved in with Mom, and provides the full-time caregiving, or else Mom would have had to go into a facility of some kind.
