It’s Opus that we need to worry about, not the gun.

And cue the “guns don’t kill people” line.

Not all guns have a safety. Glocks don’t. My husband (who is a security specialist at Sig Saur) heard about a guy who owned a Glock, went to holster it, and shot himself in the foot. Of course, the idiot had his finger in the trigger guard, where it should NEVER be unless you intend to actually fire. (I have a Walther, myself).

My Glock has a safety. A trigger in the trigger needs to be pressed before the weapon can be discharged.

I would feel safe with my own handgun. It’s everyone else’s handguns I wouldn’t feel safe with…

This comic just goes to show how timely the gun control debate has become. With better gun control laws you’d keep guns out of the hands of idiots like Opus ( hopefully)

I don’t think Webley-Fosbury ever made a nine shooter. There are some 9-shot revolvers available in a conventional double-action, but the only way to empty one is to “push the wrong thingamajig” (the trigger) 9 times – hard. Double-action trigger pulls are not easy to do by accident – one finger must supply the energy to rotate the cylinder and cock the hammer, each time. In the opinion of many experts, this long, hard trigger pull is sufficient for safety – if you’re dumb enough to do that by accident, you’re too dumb to keep track of which was a safety switch is set. (On most revolvers, it is possible to manually cock the hammer for a “single-action” easy trigger pull and better accuracy, but Opus clearly wasn’t doing that nine times.)

What, did anyone expect anything to be correct in a cartoon about guns drawn by a flaming liberal? But the scary part is that the congresspersons, state legislators, and even city councilmen who write laws about guns are generally even more ignorant than Berke Breathed. And most journalists who report on shootings don’t even comprehend the difference between a revolver and a pistol.

Glock’s are “double-action” semiautomatic pistols. The energy to feed the next round is tapped from the recoil, but it cannot shoot until the trigger finger supplies the energy to cock the hammer. So the trigger pull has to be a few pounds, and Glock and many of their customers are of the opinion that this is sufficient so no additional safeties are needed. In some models, the trigger pull is made even more difficult; the NYPD ordered Glocks with a ten pound trigger pull, IIRC. And that helps to explain the times when they put more rounds into innocent bystanders than whoever they were shooting at.

If you really want to learn a moral from this story, it’s TAKE A CLASS IN FIREARM HANDLING BEFORE YOU TOUCH A LOADED GUN!

I once had a .22cal Hi-Standard Sentinel “snubbie” with, I believe, a 3" barrel. It had a 9 shot capacity cylinder.

That should be the way to go but it involves using something this country is sorely lacking: common sense.

Under many states’ current magazine limitations (10 round) Opus would still have one shot left!

My personal favorite is the guy who shot himself in the most sensitive part of his anatomy (this is from about 30 years ago). According to the NRA, Opus just needs a few more guns and he would be perfectly safe.
