Well can you blame people for being afraid of us? We march, unannounced, into their country and broadcast that we are liberators, not conquerors. Then we begin a program of total nation building, erasing centuries of their own culture, to make them all “little democratic Americans overseas”. In the interim we attack and kill anyone who objects to what we are doing. In the end, it’s flip a coin to see which of us is the bad guy and which isn’t. Maybe there’s actually two bad guys and the people would just like both sides to get the hell out of their country and leave them alone. Come to think of it, that’s not such a bad idea.
We march in UNANNOUNCED???? In preparation for our last skirmish, we spent 9 months trying to get Iraq to comply with UN resolution 1441, and when they didn’t we told them we’d be over the 3rd week of March to settle up, much in the same way we did in 1990. They knew EXACTLY when we were coming over and what we were bringing.
Less Iraqi soldiers and civilians died in that conflict than had died at Saddam Hussein’s own hand over the previous 10 years (and would continue to die had he remained in power).
In the wake of Hussein’s overthrow, Iraqi citizens voted freely for the first time (with an overwhelming voter turnout).
Make no mistake - The U.S. are the good guys. We bring liberty and freedom to the oppressed while neutralizing threats to liberty and freedom in the rest of the world. And we have the guts to do it when it’s less-than-popular, because Americans collectively (if not individually) know unequivocally the difference between right and wrong, between liberty and oppression.
Too bad there’s an ever-increasing number of state educated, tapioca-for-brains hippies who don’t have the guts or the brains to be able to identify and stand for what’s right - they just sit around equivocating in a cesspool of moral relativism and unfounded guilt.

We use every means possible to respect their culture and have even gone so far in returning autonomy to their own government (that often acts in ways we wish they wouldn’t) that it severely restricts our ability to move and even our safety.
And the fact that we are stabilizing their country and have removed a madman and his even madder progeny means that this region of the world WILL become more stable. If that means I have to give up several years of my life at home, so be it if it means my son does not have to be here 20 years from now.

Oh, the “oil buddies” of Bush and Cheney were going to make out big? Apparently you need to keep up on the news. When the Iraqis sold their oil rights a couple years ago, the Chinese were the ones who bought them.

We went in to pre-emptively eradicate a real threat and to set up shop for the war on terror which is probably going to be a long 40 year slog much like the cold war and not unlike our presence in Europe until the 1990s.
Yes we supplied Saddam the means to win the war against Iran. At the time, it was in our best interest. And if Reagan were president today, Iran’s nuclear aspirations would be smoldering rubble in the desert and Kim Jong Il would have NEVER been able to even launch a test missile.
And the rest of the world would have the utmost respect for us.
History lesson - We brought Germany to it’s knees and we nuked Japan. They don’t terrorize us. Instead they spent the folowing 50 years emulating us, buying our Levis and in exchange selling us some really nifty electronics and automobiles.
Today we have a president that spent the first 6 months of his term going on a worldwide apology tour. Kim Jong Il and Achmedenijad (or however the hell you spell it) continue their nuclear proliferation.
I wish somebody made a bumper sticker with “End This War” crossed out and “WIN This War” written over it.
And if “WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER”, how do you ignorant hippies propose we “FREE TIBET”?
