Truth will get you nowhere, Opus! The Bureau wants to hear what it wants to hear!

It is every Americans duty to lie to pollsters ( if the truth will not suffice).

Opus? Lie? Do those words go together in the same sentence?

    No. :)

That said: I remember this one, and it’s one of my favorites in Bloom County.

Good for Opus. He’s always so cheerful when answering the phone.

The cartoon is funny, but the concept behind it is kind of scary, I for one really don’t want the government collecting data on me or my lifestyle. That just gets too Orwellian.

Pollsers like to ask; “R or D?” I answer; “Neither.” “But, if you had to choose, R or D?” “The question isn’t valid, my ballot has never had less than 6 choices for President.” My choice usually comes in 4th, with about 4% of the popular vote, but you can’t blame me for the %$#@! Ds & Rs.

She’ll be fired. He’ll be arrested. She’ll be the type who likes kinky waterfowl.

    I’m hoping for no. 3.

The problem with 3. is that Opus isn’t kinky.

Having read all of these back in the day, I’ve been following them here, waiting for the specific moment when “Bloom County” became the “Bloom County” of our memories. When it transcended its influences and became something wholly new. In this strip you can see the echoes of Walt Kelly, of Garry Trudeau, of even Charles Schultz. But you can’t imagine any of them drawing THIS strip. And it works, on a level none of them would have imagined.

This, I humbly submit, is the first true “Bloom County” strip.
