Homeschoolers pay taxes like everyone else, PLUS the expense of curriculum, etc. Therefore, we pay IN, but we do not “benefit” from the taxes. If there are fewer students in the public system, the school needs less teachers, etc. therefore, less funding.
Many city bus systems are subsidized with tax money. Is it so wrong to pay 100% of our transportation expenses, if we choose to do so?
Church of Christ (which I do not belong to, but know people who do) does not use musical instruments at all. They do all their music a cappella. Almost every other denomination does not have a complete prohibition on musical instruments, although some churches may choose to use only pipe organs and other instruments which work best with their style of worship. Many churches have “praise bands” with drums, guitars, brass instruments, etc.
Science & history are two areas where what is “true” are dependent upon that person’s worldview. Winners usually write the history books. For most of our history, I have not used textbooks, but rather find biographies and other “real” books that tell the complete story. If I can, I try to find ones with opposing viewpoints (say one written from the Scottish or Irish perspective and one from the British perspective). We teach science which is verifiable, repeatable. We cover macro evolution, even though we do not believe or teach it as “truth” but rather as a “theory or hypothesis”. By showing the available evidence, and teaching how people with different worldviews would interpret the evidence, gives a more complete education than teaching that naturalism is the only way anything could come into existence.
If they are driving too fast, complain to the police. Maybe they’ll set up a speed trap and collect more revenue for the government.
Homeschoolers average 80% on standardized tests, where public school students average only 50%, therefore it is a real stretch to say that homeschooling parents in general, are not qualified to teach.
